The Unsung Hero

An Ode to Marie biscuit

Today I’m going to talk about an unsung hero. The most salient property of this hero is their commitment to their mission in life and the humility and self-awareness with which they carry it out.

Please give it up for the hard-working yet humble, omnipresent yet unostentatious Marie biscuit.

Be it the hospital tray of a convalescent patient or the tray offered to an unwanted guest, Marie biscuit is found in every modest situation. Not wanting to draw any attention to itself, it only draws attention to the cup of tea engraved on itself.

This is the pinnacle of self-awareness. The biscuit knows that the only situation in which anyone will deign to have it is with a cup of tea. While the Oreos and the Bourbons are busy pouting for Instagram selfies, poor Marie is instead getting the image of a cup tattooed on its face in a show of deference.

Just like the scrawny kid who’s picked last for any sports team, Marie is the last biscuit to be picked from any tray. But today, we honor the biscuit that no one ever talks about.

Dear Marie, though you might be the last one to be picked always, you’ve truly made a lasting impression on our hearts. A commendable feat indeed when we consider that you were never able to make any impression on our taste buds!
